Massage

“Touching is a very old way of healing. Touch as a mother would touch a child, because what a mother is saying through her touch is ‘live.’ Something in touching strengthens the will to live in us. Healing is evoking the will to live in another person. It comes about not by doing something but by letting another person know that their pain and their suffering and their fear matter. They really matter.” Dr. Rachel Naomi Remen, co-director of the Commonweal Center; David Servan-Schreiber, MD, PhD, Anticancer: A New Way of Life

Calming The Mind, Easing Physical Pain

Massage therapy is especially effective in calming the mind, renewing the spirit, easing physical pain, and supporting physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing; it is tremendously beneficial for cancer patients, their caretakers and families.

Individualized Sessions,  Experienced Therapists

Our massage therapists are experienced working with patients who have chronic conditions. They carefully individualize therapy to your needs and constitution. The techniques they employ include:

Shiatsu, which is a form of acupressure that has its foundation in traditional Chinese medicine, follows the network of meridians that govern and balance the flow of energy, or qi, throughout your body.

Craniosacral techniques are drawn from the traditions of osteopathy, energy work and Taoism, and focus on matters of the heart and soul. This work combines gentle, sensitive touch with meditative use of the inner eye and inner ear.

Jin Shin, which is especially well suited to cancer care, uses gentle acupressure on specific points to help release chronic tension, balance qi, and relieve stress and trauma. Jin Shin promotes a pleasant state in which one can relax and move out of the head and into the body, accessing feelings and inner wisdom.

Additional techniques such as deep tissue and Swedish massage add a soothing touch and muscle relaxation to your massage experience. If desired, shiatsu, jin shin, and craniosacral bodywork can be done with the patient fully clothed and without the use of oils.

Together, these forms of bodywork heighten your natural healing ability, reduce psychosomatic troubles caused by stress, and address physical injuries and internal organ imbalances.

Benefits For Cancer Patients

Oncology massage eases stiffness, aches, pains and discomforts, calms nausea and relieves the digestive side effects of cancer treatment. For cancer patients, families and caregivers it provides a special, personal time and space for you to relax and rejuvenate your body, mind and spirit.
